Dacia Parts by VIN: Working the Renault Group Catalogue for Duster, Sandero, Logan, Jogger and Spring

Is a Dacia just a Renault with a different badge?

Renault signed the privatisation contract for Automobile Dacia on 2 July 1999 and took a 51% controlling stake that year, later raising it to roughly 99%. Everything the brand has built since is developed inside Renault Group engineering, and the parts data follows the same route. The third-generation Sandero (BJI), the Logan (LJI), the Jogger, the Duster (P1310) and the Bigster (R1310) all sit on the Renault-Nissan CMF-B LS platform. Renault Group describes CMF-B as a set of three units (front, centre, rear) plus five Big Modules covering the engine compartment, the cockpit, the sub-bodies and the electrical architecture, with four central units and three rear units to choose between.

At the counter that resolves to one thing. The number you want is a Renault Group number, and it lives in Renault Group data. That means Dialogys. There is no separate Dacia parts system and no separate numbering scheme for the mechanical side of the car.

Resist the arithmetic, though. Figures like eighty percent Renault or ninety percent shared with the Clio circulate constantly and none of them trace back to anything Renault published. The structural version of the claim is the useful one: the modules are group modules, so hardware bolted to those modules is usually a group reference, and the further you move towards the outside of the car, the less that holds.

What is the R on the end of every Dacia part number?

Modern Dacia references are written as nine digits closed by the letter R. That shape is what you look for in a marketplace listing, and it is what separates a genuine group reference from a supplier's own catalogue code.

Older cars carry the earlier Renault style: grouped eight-digit numbers with 7700 or 8200 prefixes. They turn up on Logan I cars and on carry-over hardware that was never renumbered. You will also meet 6001-prefix numbers such as 6001547604 on Logan-era parts. That prefix is real in listings, and nothing we could read explains whether the block was issued in Romania or assigned by Renault, so search it exactly as written and do not try to translate it into anything else.

As for the R itself, no Renault primary source explains what it signifies. It is consistently present, and that is all anyone can say with confidence. Claims that the trailing letter marks a revision index or a supersession level are repeated widely and supported nowhere. Read the number off the old part when it is legible, then confirm the same string against the catalogue entry for the VIN in front of you before committing the order.

Where does the Renault sharing actually stop?

The sharing is genuine and it runs deep. Engines, gearboxes, filters, sensors and the electrical architecture come out of the group parts bin, and the Dacia reference for those items is often the same reference a Renault uses. Then you reach the outside of the car and it stops. Body panels, lamps, glass, bumpers, badges and interior trim are Dacia-specific references. Hunt for a Renault equivalent wing or tail lamp and you spend an hour on a part that does not exist.

Lighting is where this bites hardest, because the light signatures change inside a generation. The 2021/2022 Duster II facelift introduced the Y-shaped LED daytime running light signature and made the Duster the first Dacia with front LED indicators, alongside LED dipped beam and LED plate lights. Facelift headlamps from that period do not fit a pre-facelift Duster II. The lamp arrives, the connector does not match and the car sits on the ramp overnight.

The same pattern repeats at the other end of the range. For model year 2026 the Sandero, the Sandero Stepway, the Jogger and the Logan were restyled with new headlamps, and the Sandero, the Sandero Stepway and the Jogger also took an inverted-T rear signature that the Logan did not get. The restyle brought a revised grille and bumper and a 10-inch touchscreen with it. Those cars otherwise look like the 2021-onwards vehicle they replaced. That is precisely the problem.

The quietest split came in the second half of 2022, when Dacia rolled its new DC emblem and identity across the Spring, the Sandero, the Sandero Stepway, the Jogger and the Duster. No panel changed. The grille, the wheel centre caps and the steering wheel boss did. Those references split by build date with no other visible change to the car, and a customer's photo will never settle it.

Same model, different country: why the model year is not enough

Dacia does not keep a model in one factory for the life of a generation, and that is the single most common reason a part comes back. The October 2020 decision sent the standard Sandero III to the Moroccan plants, Tangier and SOMACA in Casablanca, while the higher-value Sandero Stepway stayed at Mioveni. That is one nameplate coming off lines in two countries. The brochure page does not say which.

The Jogger split by date: Mioveni from 2021 to 2024, then Tangier from July 2024 onwards. Duster III is built at Mioveni and also at Oyak Renault in Bursa from November 2024, where it wears Renault badges for Turkey and non-European markets and differs from the Dacia mainly in grille lettering and the steering wheel logo. The Dacia Striker will be built solely at Bursa, the first Dacia with Turkey as its sole global production site.

That Turkish car is a trap in both directions. A Renault Duster sold in Turkey is the Dacia P1310 from Bursa, so the cross-reference holds. Go further afield and it stops holding. The Renault Duster sold in Brazil is an older, separate vehicle on a different architecture, and a panel reference pulled out of that catalogue will not line up. India catches people out for the opposite reason: the Renault Duster sold there looks close enough to the current car to seem interchangeable, and it is built locally against its own catalogue with local content. Same warning, different cause. Either way the supplier will not accept the return.

None of this is readable from the first three VIN characters. A China-built Dacia Spring carries the Romanian WMI: a real 2022 car decodes from UU1DBG009NU073919, which opens UU1 exactly like a Mioveni-built Duster. Decoder sites describe a later character as a factory code, but no manufacturer code table is public and we would not quote one to a paying customer. Resolve the whole VIN in the manufacturer catalogue. That is the job a hosted Dialogys front end such as VINsearch does.

Which engine is in it, and which oil goes in?

Brochure names cover multiple builds, so 1.5 dCi or 1.0 TCe on a job card tells you less than the engine code does. The VIN resolved in the catalogue gives you the code, and the code gives you the timing arrangement and the filter.

The H4M runs chain timing where the K4M runs a belt, which settles most arguments about a 1.6 16v rattling at cold start. The H4M also shares oil filter 152085758R with the 2.0 M4R, so a filter already on the shelf for a larger Renault fits. The K9K has been in production since 2001, passed its ten millionth unit at Valladolid in April 2013 and has also been built at Bursa and Chennai. One engine name covers a lot of different hardware over that span.

The 1.2 TCe 130/140 mild hybrid three-cylinder in the Duster III and the Bigster deserves caution. Its characteristics are documented (Miller cycle, chain timing, variable-geometry turbine, a 48V starter-generator, 230 Nm) but two different engine codes circulate for it online. Read it off the VIN rather than off a forum thread.

Renault oil standards behave asymmetrically, and this catches people out. RN17 is backward compatible and covers RN0710 and RN0700. RN17 FE is not backward compatible with anything, including RN0700, RN0710, RN0720, RN17 and RN17 RSA. RN0720 is the low-SAPS ACEA C4 5W-30 specification for diesels with a particulate filter, applied from October 2007. Put an RN17 FE 0W-20 into an older K9K or K4M because the label looked like the newest thing on the shelf and you have bought a wear problem and a warranty problem that will not surface for years.

Duster 2WD and Duster 4x4 are two different cars underneath

A Duster is two vehicles below the floor. The 2WD runs a torsion beam rear axle. The 4x4 runs an independent multi-link rear on its own subframe, with the tank and the exhaust routed around it, and the rear axle beam on that car carries its own reference, 554039122R being one of them. Underbody parts do not cross between the drivetrains. The wrong axle assembly on the bench is a restocking fee and a car you cannot give back.

Wheels split the range as well. All three Duster generations use a 5x114.3 bolt pattern, where the Sandero and the Logan are four-stud cars. For a fleet running both, that kills the idea of a shared spare, and it explains why a customer turning up with a Dacia wheel off another car on the yard gets sent home with it.

Confirm the drivetrain from the VIN before quoting rear suspension or exhaust work on a Duster. The badge on the tailgate is not a reliable guide to what is underneath, and a 4x4 that has spent its whole life on tarmac looks identical from the front.

Why the Spring has to be treated as its own animal

The Spring is the one Dacia where group habits will mislead you. It is built in Shiyan, Hubei, at a plant owned by eGT New Energy Automotive, a joint venture of Dongfeng, Renault and Nissan. It descends from the Renault City K-ZE sold in China from 2019, which itself derives from the Renault Kwid, on a dedicated EV variant of the CMF-A platform. Production sales began in March 2021 and the facelift landed on 21 February 2024, adding right-hand drive for the UK and Ireland. The lineage is documented. The parts-number crossover to Kwid or City K-ZE catalogues is not, so do not order a Kwid reference and hope.

The traction battery is nothing like a Zoe pack, and the numbers matter to a quote. 27.4 kWh gross, 26.8 kWh usable, 72 cells in a 72s1p arrangement across 12 modules of 6s1p, 262.8 V nominal, pack mass 186 kg plus or minus 5 kg. It is air-cooled by fans, with no heat pump and no battery preconditioning. Diagnostic assumptions carried over from a Zoe or a Megane E-Tech produce a reman quote you then have to withdraw in front of the customer.

DC charging was not standard at launch. CCS at 30 kW was a paid option, around 600 euros, on the higher trims, while AC charging runs up to 6.6 or 7.4 kW. A car without that option has a physically different charge inlet assembly, so the VIN decides the part and the model year does not. The reference format, at least, is entirely ordinary: headlamp 266052417R, rear bumper sections 850222453R and 850221393R, all in the same nine-digit R form as a Mioveni-built Duster.

Two changes are coming. The updated Spring was announced in December 2025, with deliveries from spring 2026. It moves to a 24.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack of 108 cells, the first LFP application in Renault Group. Motors go to 52 kW (70 hp) and 75 kW (100 hp), replacing the 33 kW (45 hp) and 48 kW (65 hp) units. AC runs to 7 kW single-phase and DC to 40 kW, 20 to 80% in 29 minutes, 225 km WLTP. The next generation then leaves China for Revoz in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, on the AmpR Small architecture alongside the Renault Twingo E-Tech, expected around 2027, with the Chinese-built car planned to stay on sale beside it. Tariffs belong in the cost conversation too. EU definitive countervailing duties on battery electric vehicles imported from China took effect on 30 October 2024 under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2754, on top of the existing 10% car import duty, and they apply to Western-brand BEVs built in China including the Spring.

Equipment splits that catch a counter out inside one model year

ECO-G bi-fuel cars are common enough on a European ramp that this needs saying plainly: the LPG tank sits in the spare wheel well. Boot volume is unchanged. That is the marketing point, and the car leaves the factory with a tyre repair kit and no spare. Order a spare wheel or a wheel well trim panel and it will not physically go in, after the customer has paid for it. A Sandero ECO-G carries a 40 litre LPG tank alongside a 50 litre petrol tank. That is where the 1,300 km plus figure comes from. Dacia held about 67% of the European LPG market at the end of July 2024.

GSR2 phase two is the other date to have on the wall. From 7 July 2024 it applies to every new vehicle registered in the EU regardless of when the model was type approved, so the car must carry intelligent speed assistance, autonomous emergency braking, driver drowsiness and attention warning, emergency lane keeping and an event data recorder. That splits sensor, camera and windscreen hardware inside a single Dacia model year. Quote glass and mirror pod work against the registration date and the VIN. The brochure year will mislead you.

Assistance content varies sharply across the range in any case. The Spring scored one star at Euro NCAP in 2021 and Duster III scored three stars under the 2024 protocol. Two cars wearing the same badge on the same forecourt can be built to very different hardware levels.

Why Dacia parts turn up faster than the badge suggests

The badge suggests a small brand and the volume says otherwise. Dacia sold 697,408 vehicles in 2025 for a record 4.5% share of the European passenger car market and 7.9% of the European retail channel, and the Sandero was Europe's best-selling passenger car across all channels for the second consecutive year at 289,295 units worldwide. Cumulative production passed 10 million at Mioveni on 20 April 2022, of which Sandero and Sandero Stepway accounted for 2.6 million, Duster for 2.1 million and Logan with Logan MCV for 1.95 million.

Those cars are supplied through Renault Group's parts and accessories logistics arm, which ships around 290,000 part references worldwide from 25 warehouses. Villeroy in France, opened in autumn 2006 with 153,200 square metres and about 600 staff, now runs a robotised bin store, with same-day dispatch on orders placed up to 17:30 for next-morning delivery. Dacia parts move through that same network. That is the practical reason availability tends to beat what brand share would predict.

Mioveni repays a closer look too, because it is not only an assembly hall. The site carries the mechanical and chassis operations as well, an aluminium foundry among them, and it supplies gearboxes and axles to Renault and Nissan assembly plants. Those operations left Renault Group in July 2023, when the engine and gearbox plants and the foundry passed to HORSE Romania, the former Renault Mecanique Roumanie and now part of the powertrain company Renault holds with Geely. The industrial base did not move. A workshop ordering a Dacia gearbox part is generally ordering off the same lines that feed several Renault and Nissan models.

What a VIN lookup will not tell you

A catalogue answers one question well: which reference applies to this VIN, and how it sits in the assembly drawing. It does not tell you stock. It does not tell you price. Both come from whoever you buy from, and no lookup tool changes that.

The bigger practical limit is currency of the data. An installed Dialogys image is frozen at the date it was cut, so it cannot resolve a VIN for a build it has never seen. The result is no answer at all rather than a wrong answer you could sanity-check, and it fails on exactly the cars most likely to be sitting in the workshop, the eighteen-month-old ones. Coverage claims printed by sellers of offline discs are vendor claims. Renault does not stand behind them. A hosted catalogue that stays current sidesteps that failure mode, and VINsearch runs one across the Renault and Dacia data.

Several things repeated confidently in the trade could not be verified and are best treated as open. What the trailing R signifies. Whether an identical component is genuinely cheaper under a Dacia reference than under a Renault one, which nobody has yet shown with two numbers and two prices. Whether Renault Group commits to supplying parts for a fixed number of years after end of production, where ten years and fifteen years both circulate without a traceable source. Whether Moroccan-built and Romanian-built cars behind the same reference use different suppliers. Whether a replacement body computer must be VIN-configured before it will run, which is universally assumed in the trade and which we could not confirm against documentation.

Dialogys is Renault Group car and van data, with Kangoo, Trafic and Master included. Renault Trucks was sold to Volvo in January 2001 and renamed by Volvo the following year, so it belongs to Volvo Group and sits entirely outside this system. A truck VIN typed into a Renault car catalogue returns nothing, and retyping it will not help.
