Peugeot paint code: where to find it and how to read the letters

Finding the Peugeot paint code on the car

On most recent Peugeots and Citroëns, open the driver’s door fully and look for a white label on the A-pillar or the B-pillar. Some models carry it on the door shut near the hinges, and on the Citroën Picasso it often sits by the fuse box in the dashboard.

The Peugeot 107 and the Citroën C1 break the pattern, with the label low on the right-hand B-pillar. On older cars, check under the hood. The code was often painted onto the bulkhead or stenciled onto a suspension top toward the back of the engine bay.

Reading a Peugeot paint code

EWP is Blanc Banquise, a solid white Peugeot has offered since 1993. KTV is Noir Perla Nera, a metallic black in the range since 2007. Paint suppliers list their formulas under the three letters, so give them the code as well as the name.

Some labels show four letters, such as EKQD. The first three are the color, and the fourth records how the factory applied the paint, so a paint supplier mixes from the first three alone.

The code also tells the sprayer which system to use. EWP goes over a white undercoat as a solid color. KTV needs a dark gray undercoat, a metallic base coat and a clear coat on top, which changes both the materials and the labor on the quote.

The VIN alone rarely gives you the color

A Peugeot VIN identifies the manufacturer, the model and the individual car. Color is an order option, and none of the 17 characters records it, so a decoder that reads the characters cannot return a paint code.

The factory keeps the color in the build record for that VIN. If the label is gone after a door swap or a respray, a Peugeot or Citroën parts department can read the original color from that record. Our post on finding a paint code by VIN covers the same principle across other makes.

Check the label against the paint

The label records the color the car left the factory in. A car that was resprayed in another color keeps its original label, so compare the code with the paint inside the door shut and under the fuel filler flap before you order anything. If the two disagree, the label gives you the original color and the paint on the car shows what the last body shop used.

On a two-tone car the roof or the mirror caps carry a second color, so confirm both before you order paint. Photograph the label at check-in, before any panel comes off, and keep the photo with the job.

Body-colored parts arrive unpainted

Bumper covers, mirror caps and door handles that match the body are usually supplied in primer or unpainted, and the body shop paints them to the code. Order them by VIN, because one bumper can come in versions with or without parking-sensor holes, washer jets or a different grille opening, and none of that shows in the paint code.

Some trim parts come finished in black or chrome, depending on the trim level. The VIN lookup shows which version the car left the factory with, so you know before you quote whether a part needs painting at all. Grilles, moldings and sensor brackets are often separate parts in the diagram, so check which of them move across from the old bumper and which you order new.

Peugeot paint code and parts on VINsearch

VINsearch opens Service Box, the Stellantis catalog for Peugeot, Citroën and DS, in the browser. Enter the VIN and you get the parts fitted to that build, with part numbers, diagrams and supersessions. Start from the Peugeot parts catalog or run the VIN through the free VIN decoder first.

For the color itself, trust the label on the car and fall back on the dealer’s build record when the label is missing. Then spray a test card and hold it against the panel in daylight before you paint a whole bumper.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the paint code on a Peugeot?

On a white label in the driver’s door opening, on the A-pillar or B-pillar on most recent models. The 107 has it low on the right-hand B-pillar, and older Peugeots often have it under the hood on the bulkhead.

What color is Peugeot EWP?

EWP is Blanc Banquise, a solid white Peugeot has offered since 1993. It goes over a white undercoat.

What is KTV on a Peugeot?

KTV is Noir Perla Nera, a metallic black used since 2007. As a metallic, it needs a base coat and a clear coat over a dark gray undercoat.

Can I get my Peugeot paint code from the VIN?

Not by decoding the characters. A Peugeot or Citroën dealer can read the original color from the factory record for that VIN, which is the route to take when the label is missing.
