Snap-on EPC

Genesis EPC online — genuine Genesis parts by VIN

Hyundai announced Genesis as a brand of its own on 4 November 2015, and its cars are Hyundai Motor Group engineering under a Genesis badge. On VINsearch the parts open in Snap-on EPC, the group catalog that also holds Hyundai and Kia, starting from the VIN. The numbers are the group’s, and on older cars the word Genesis may be naming a Hyundai.

How to look up Genesis parts by VIN

A GV80, a G70 or an electric GV60 all go the same way.

  • 1. Take the VIN from the car. Genesis cars built in South Korea start KMT and the SUVs KMU. Check it with the free decoder at /vin-decoder/ before you rely on the prefix.
  • 2. Open Genesis on VINsearch, which runs Snap-on EPC, and enter the VIN.
  • 3. Verify the vehicle record, powertrain, equipment and part application. A petrol GV70 and an electric one open different diagrams.
  • 4. Open the assembly group and find the part on the exploded view.
  • 5. Read the full ten-character number and follow any supersession to its current form. Two numbers can sit one character apart, so read to the end.
  • 6. Compare it with the part you removed. If the first five digits do not match the kind of part in your hand, stop and look again.

Shared platforms, separate numbers

Genesis builds on group platforms. The G70 uses the rear-drive platform and engines of the Kia Stinger on a shorter wheelbase. The GV60 sits on E-GMP, the electric platform under the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.

That does not make the numbers interchangeable. Hyundai’s 2024 recall of the integrated charging control unit covered the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6, the GV60 and the electric GV70 and G80. The unit was 36400 in every one of them, and the second block changed by model: 1XCA0 on the GV60, 1XDA0 on the GV70, 1XBA0 on the G80, 1XAA0 on the Ioniq 5. The first five digits tell you what the part is. The last five tell you whose it is.

The 2024 recall of high-pressure fuel pumps on 2.0 turbo engines reads the same way. The G70 took 35320-2CTB0 or 35320-2CTB1, one character apart, while the Veloster N, Elantra N and Kona N took 35320-2GHA1.

When Genesis was a Hyundai

Before it was a brand, Genesis was a Hyundai model. The Hyundai Genesis sedan ran from 2008 as the BH and from late 2013 as the DH. When the brand launched, the DH was renamed the Genesis G80 and sold under that name until 2020. The Hyundai Equus gave way to the Genesis G90, sold in South Korea as the EQ900 until its 2018 facelift.

The Genesis Coupe, the BK, stayed a Hyundai to the end of production in 2016. So a car called Genesis may be a Hyundai, and an early G80 is a renamed one. The model code in the build record settles it.

Plants add one more variable. The GV70 is built at Ulsan in South Korea and in Montgomery, Alabama, and the 2024 fuel pump recall on 2022 and 2023 GV70s covered cars from the Alabama plant. Same model, same years, and the VIN decides whether the notice applies.

Frequently asked questions

How do I look up Genesis parts by VIN?

Enter the 17-character VIN in the Genesis catalog on VINsearch, which runs on Snap-on EPC. Verify the vehicle record, powertrain, equipment and part application, then open the assembly group, read the five-and-five number with its supersession and check it against the old part.

Are Genesis parts the same as Hyundai and Kia parts?

They share a numbering system and a great deal of engineering, and the first five digits name the same kind of part across the group. The second block is often model-specific: the charging control unit is 36400-1XCA0 on a GV60 and 36400-1XAA0 on an Ioniq 5, on the same platform.

Is the Genesis G80 a Hyundai?

The first G80, sold from 2016 to 2020, was the second-generation Hyundai Genesis, the DH, renamed when Genesis became a brand. The G80 launched in 2020 is a new generation.
