How to look up Jaguar parts by VIN
Six steps, the same for an XE, an F-Pace or an F-Type.
- 1. Read the 17-character VIN. In NHTSA’s register SAJ marks a Jaguar car and SAD a Jaguar SUV. The free decoder at /vin-decoder/ reads basic structure such as maker, country of build and model year.
- 2. Open the Jaguar catalog on VINsearch and enter the VIN. Land Rover opens on the same login.
- 3. Check the vehicle record, engine, equipment and part application before choosing a diagram.

- 6. Check it against the old part or its label before you order. If the box carries an LR number and the catalog a Jaguar one, compare the parts before you call either of them wrong.
One part, two numbers
Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008, and on 1 January 2013 the two became one company, Jaguar Land Rover. Engines and platforms are shared across the two brands, and so are parts.
The genuine oil filter for the 3.0 supercharged V6 and the 5.0 V8 is C2D3670 in Jaguar numbering and LR011279 in Land Rover’s, and it has also been listed as AJ812351. The same filter serves the F-Type, F-Pace, XE, XF and XJ and, on the Land Rover side, the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar and Discovery. So a number on a Jaguar diagram can look foreign next to the one on the box and still be the right part. Check each application.
Reading a Jaguar part number
Jaguar numbers open with a three-character prefix, letter, digit, letter, followed by digits: C2D3670 for that oil filter, T4A44875 for a set of F-Pace SVR brake pads. Current Land Rover numbers are LR and six digits, like LR011279, so the prefix tells you which brand issued a number before you search it.
The platforms show where the overlaps sit. The F-Pace shares JLR’s D7a platform with the Range Rover Velar and was built at Solihull, and its four-cylinders are JLR’s 2.0 Ingenium engines, whose genuine oil filter Land Rover lists as LR073669. The E-Pace shares PTA with the second Range Rover Evoque and the Discovery Sport and came from two plants, Magna Steyr in Graz and Chery Jaguar Land Rover in Changshu. The I-Pace was built in Graz from 2018 to 2024.
The Ford years
Jaguars built under Ford carry Ford engineering. The X-Type, made at Halewood from 2001 to 2009, used a modified version of the Ford Mondeo’s CD132 platform, V6 engines derived from Ford’s Duratec and diesels based on the Duratorq. Only about a fifth of the car was shared with the Mondeo, and much of that is out of sight, such as the heating and ventilation units.
That history matters when you source parts for one. Identify the car by VIN and check the number the Jaguar catalog gives and its application, whatever the part on the bench reminds you of.
