How to look up Aston Martin parts by VIN
Six steps, the same for a DB9, a Vantage or a DBX.
- 1. Read the full 17-character VIN. SCF is Aston Martin’s manufacturer code. The free decoder at /vin-decoder/ reads basic information such as maker, country of build and model year. Keep the serial at the end, because some parts change at a chassis number.
- 2. Open the Aston Martin catalog on VINsearch and enter the VIN.
- 3. Check the vehicle record, engine, equipment and part application before choosing a diagram.
- 4. Open the system you need, such as engine, brakes, suspension or body, and find the part on the exploded diagram.
- 5. Read the genuine part number and follow its supersession with any conditions. If a number is limited to a model year or a serial range, check that against the VIN.
- 6. Check it against the old part or its label before you order.
Reading an Aston Martin part number
Ford bought control of Aston Martin in 1987 and sold it in 2007, and the DB9, designed in those years, carries numbers in Ford’s layout: a four-character prefix, a basic part number and a suffix for the change level. In Aston’s own DB9 parts list the front brake pad kit is 4G43-2D007-AA and the rear kit 4G43-2C562-AA. The basic numbers follow Ford’s groups, the 2000s for brakes, the 6000s for the engine and the 12000s for ignition, so the DB9 spark plug pack is 5R13-12405-BA-PK.
Left and right follow Ford’s rule as well: an odd basic number is the left-hand part and an even one the right. The DB9’s front calipers are 4G43-2C463 on the left and 4G43-2C462 on the right, and the suffix changes with the colour, AA for grey, CA for black, DA for red and EA for silver. Order a caliper from the number without its suffix and you can get the right part in the wrong colour.
Model years and chassis breaks
Aston changes parts partway through a model’s life and records the break by chassis serial. In the DB9 list the front seat heating elements change at serial A06678: 4G43-14D698-AA up to A06677, 7G43-14D698-AB from A06678. The oil filter appears under three numbers, XR1E-6714-AC, then 44-85099 for the 2008 model year and 4G43-44-10818 for 2009.
So the lookup starts with the full VIN rather than a model name and a year. The serial at the end decides which side of a break the car sits on.
Mercedes-AMG engines in the current range
In December 2013 Aston Martin signed a deal with Mercedes-Benz for Mercedes-AMG engines and electrical systems. The 4.0 twin-turbo V8 that came of it went into the DB11 V8 from June 2017, the Vantage from 2018 and the DBX, built at St Athan in Wales since July 2020, which also uses Mercedes’ nine-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox. The DB12, built at Gaydon from 2023, carries a 4.0 twin-turbo V8 of the same family.
The DB11 V12 is Aston’s own 5.2 twin-turbo engine. One DB11 name covers two different engine bays, so select the vehicle record by VIN and check the engine in the catalog.
