How to look up DS parts by VIN
Early cars went out as Citroëns, so let the VIN decide what you are looking at.
- 1. Read the VIN from the car. Cars built under the DS brand start VR1. The first DS3 and DS4 were made as Citroëns, so their papers may say Citroën. The free decoder at /vin-decoder/ shows what the VIN itself says.
- 2. Open the DS catalog on VINsearch, which runs on Service Box, and enter the VIN.
- 3. Service Box resolves the build, engine, gearbox and hybrid system included.
- 4. Open the parts group and find the item on the exploded view.
- 5. Note the reference and whether it has been replaced. Order the current one.
- 6. Compare it with the old part before it goes on the order. A reference with the right shape can still belong to another car.
Two DS 3s and two DS 4s
The DS 3 name has been on two different cars. The first was the Citroën DS3, a three-door hatch built at Poissy from 2009 on the PF1 platform, badged DS 3 from its 2016 facelift and made until 2019. The second arrived in 2018 as the DS 3 Crossback, a five-door crossover on CMP, the platform of the Peugeot 208, and it has been called plain DS 3 since the 2022 facelift.
DS 4 followed the same path. The first, 2010 to 2018, was built in Mulhouse on PF2. The one from 2021 is on EMP2 with the Peugeot 308 and the Opel Astra, built at Rüsselsheim, and since its 2025 facelift it is sold as the DS N°4. Treat each pair as two cars.
Peugeot and Citroën underneath
When DS split off, PSA said it would keep the group’s platforms and dealerships. The DS 7, called DS 7 Crossback until 2022, is on EMP2 with the Citroën C5 Aircross and has been built in Mulhouse and in Shenzhen. The DS 9 saloon, 2020 to 2023, was also EMP2 and was assembled only in Shenzhen. The DS N°7 due in 2026 moves to STLA Medium, the base of the current Peugeot 3008, Jeep Compass and Opel Grandland, and is built at Melfi in Italy.
The DS 7 E-Tense 4x4 plug-in hybrid adds a rear electric motor, hardware a DS 7 without it does not have. Mechanical parts often match a Peugeot or Citroën relative. Trim, lighting and the cabin are where DS goes its own way, so check those against the DS VIN.
Reading a Service Box reference
You will meet PSA references in two shapes. Some are short, four digits and two characters, like 2052Z1 for a clutch kit or 0532W4 for a flywheel. Others run to ten digits, like 1637201380 for a battery.
The shape proves nothing about fit. A reference that looks right can belong to a different engine or a different generation, which is why the lookup starts at the VIN and not at a number from a supplier.

A Service Box example: reading the front-brake list
The DS recording contains a front-brake drawing beside a parts list. Disc, caliper, pad set and smaller components have separate positions. Several rows carry side, quantity or replacement information, which is why copying the first visible number can produce the wrong order.
Establish the DS record
Resolve the VIN and confirm the model generation, engine and equipment first. This assembly view illustrates the interface; it is not evidence that the same brake hardware belongs on another DS.
Match the requested item to its position
The drawing distinguishes the disc at position 1 from the pad set at position 4. A caliper request also needs its side; the visible list has separate left and right entries.
Read conditions and replacement lines
The list shows more than one reference for some positions and includes RP replacement notation. Read the complete applicable row rather than treating every number near a drawing as an interchangeable choice.
Complete the order from the exact vehicle
Check quantity and associated seals or fasteners, then record the full current service reference. A brake diagram gives parts information; installation requirements come from the appropriate repair procedure.
If two references remain possible, resolve the vehicle condition before quoting. Do not use numbers visible in this demonstration as a fitment recommendation.
