Peugeot part numbers: how to read a PSA reference like 98 189 149 80

The ten-digit Peugeot part number

MANN-FILTER’s catalog entry for its HU 711/51 x oil filter lists the Peugeot and Citroën references the filter replaces, and it makes a good specimen. Every long reference on it has ten digits and ends in 80: 9467645080, 9467645180, 9653896680, 1629084080 and 98 189 149 80.

The same list shows both ways the number gets written: in groups of two, three, three and two digits, as in 98 189 149 80, and as one run of ten digits, as in 9467645080. Both forms are one reference, so if a search fails with spaces, run it again without them.

The opening digits vary: 94, 96, 16 and 98 all appear on that one filter. We found no published PSA definition of the prefixes or of the closing 80, so treat all ten digits as the number and read no meaning into any of them.

Short references such as 1109 CK

Next to the long numbers, the MANN list carries short references: 1109 AH, 1109 AJ, 1109 CK, 1109 CL, 1109 Z1 and 1109 Z2 among them. Each is four digits followed by two characters, and every short reference listed for that oil filter shares the block 1109.

Short references turn up in aftermarket cross-reference lists like this one. Treat one as a lead to the part, then confirm the current long reference in the catalog.

One part, many numbers

Count the entries and one oil filter answers to more than a dozen PSA references across the two formats. The filter covers petrol engines such as the EP6DT and diesels such as the DW10BTED4, which is one reason the list runs long. A list like that mixes numbers from different periods and different engines, and it does not tell you which one PSA supplies today.

Watch the single digits as well. 9467645080 and 9467645180 sit in the same list and differ only in the eighth digit, the kind of gap a tired eye misses.

Service Box settles it. It shows the current reference for the VIN with the supersession applied, so an old number from an invoice leads you to the part you can order now. Our guide to parts supersession explains how that chain works.

Citroën and DS use the same system

A shared part keeps its reference across badges. MANN lists 98 189 149 80 and 1629084080 under Citroën and again under Peugeot for the same filter.

NTN-SNR gives 1654512780 as the original reference for its KD459.70J timing belt kit, a 118-tooth oil-bath belt with two rollers, and lists it for Citroën, DS, Opel, Peugeot and Vauxhall alike. Our post on Peugeot and Citroën parts covers when a shared number fits both cars.

Cross-references and aftermarket numbers

An aftermarket number points the other way. HU 711/51 x is MANN’s number and KD459.70J is SNR’s, and each one maps to a set of PSA references. The MANN page lists BMW and Ford references for the same element next to the PSA ones, so one aftermarket number can span several carmakers.

To check whether a number you have been quoted has the PSA shape at all, paste it into the OEM number lookup, which recognizes the ten-digit format ending in 80. A match in shape is a first filter, and fitment still comes from the catalog.

Finding the Peugeot part number for your car

Open the Peugeot parts catalog, enter the VIN and pick the diagram. It shows the reference for that build, and you can compare it with the number printed on the old part before you order.

The catalog gives you the reference, the diagram and the supersession. Prices come from the dealer or your supplier, and repair steps from the workshop documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What does 80 at the end of a Peugeot part number mean?

We could not find a published PSA definition. Every long reference in our examples ends in 80, so keep it as part of the number when you search or order.

Are Peugeot and Citroën part numbers the same?

Both brands use PSA references, and a shared part carries the same number under both badges. MANN lists 98 189 149 80 under Peugeot and under Citroën for one oil filter.

How do I find the current number for an old Peugeot reference?

Look it up in Service Box against the VIN. The catalog applies the supersession and shows the reference PSA supplies now.

Is 1109 CK a Peugeot part number?

It is a short PSA reference. MANN-FILTER lists it among the Peugeot and Citroën references its HU 711/51 x oil filter replaces.
