How to verify OEM Hyundai and Kia parts from a Mobis box
What a genuine Hyundai or Kia box shows
Hyundai Mobis’s Middle East and Africa site lists what to look for on a genuine box: the Hyundai logo, the Genuine Part logo, “Made in Korea”, a round-edged label and a QR code. It adds that older packaging has no QR code, so a missing code on old stock is no proof of a fake.
That checklist comes from one regional arm. Hold the box against one you know came from your own dealer as well, and look hard at print quality, spelling and the label edges.
The same site gives clutch discs, brake pads and oil filters as examples of fakes that can damage the car and lead to costly repairs. It also warns that fitting fake parts can cost you the cover of the manufacturer’s warranty.
Scan the QR code, then check where it lands
In January 2021 Hyundai Mobis announced MAPS, a parts system built on AI and blockchain, covering about 300 Hyundai and Kia models and some three million parts for 16,000 dealers in more than 200 countries. One stated aim was to let the end customer scan the QR code on the packaging and confirm the part is authentic.
Look at the address the code opens before you believe what the page says. And remember what the code vouches for: the label it is printed on. Whether the part inside arrived with that label is a separate question, which is where the number comes in. Photograph the label and the code for the job file before the box goes in the bin.
How to verify OEM Hyundai parts by the number
Most Hyundai and Kia numbers have ten characters in two groups of five. Hyundai’s July 2025 bulletin 25-EM-008H for the 3.3-litre Santa Fe lists the left exhaust manifold gasket as 28521-3C702 and the right as 28521-3C712. One character separates left from right.
The first group names the kind of part. A 2021 Hyundai bulletin lists the Veloster’s exhaust manifold gasket as 28521-2B400, the same first group as the Santa Fe’s, and its knock sensor as 39250-2B000 against 39250-2E000 for the 2016 Sonata Hybrid.
Assemblies and fasteners run to other shapes. The Veloster long block in that bulletin is 21101-2BK04FFF, the Santa Fe engine service kits are 20251-3CS2WQQH and 20251-3CS4WQQH for two- and four-wheel drive, and a flange bolt is 11403-08126K. Not every number carries a letter either: the oil filter in the Veloster kit is 26300-35505. A long number is normal on a big assembly. On a brake pad box it deserves a question.
Match the number to your VIN in Snap-on EPC
Hyundai, Kia and Genesis sit in one catalog, Snap-on EPC. Enter the VIN, open the group, find the part on the diagram and read the number listed for that build. Then compare it with the label and with any number on the part, character by character, because one digit is the whole difference between a left and a right gasket.
A label number that never appears for your car means the part was made for something else, whoever made it. VINsearch opens the Hyundai catalog and the Kia catalog by VIN, and our Snap-on EPC guide shows how the diagrams and supersessions read.
One company behind both badges
Hyundai Mobis started in 1977 as Korea Precision Industry and has carried its present name since 2000. It is the parts and service arm for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, which is why one catalog and one supply chain serve all three. Our post on why Hyundai and Kia share a catalog covers what that means for cross-brand parts.
Buy where the warranty applies
Mobis tells buyers to trust an authorized Hyundai, Kia or Genesis dealer or service partner. In the US, Hyundai backs its replacement parts with a 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty against defects in material or factory workmanship.
Anything bought outside that channel gets the same checks as above, in the same order: the number for your VIN first, then the number on the part, then the box.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes genuine Hyundai and Kia parts?
Genuine after-sales parts for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis come through Hyundai Mobis, the parts and service company of Hyundai Motor Group, founded in 1977.
Can I scan a Hyundai parts box to check it?
Newer Mobis packaging carries a QR code meant for exactly that, and older boxes do not. Check that the code opens a Mobis page, then match the number to your VIN anyway.
Are Hyundai and Kia part numbers the same format?
Both come from the Mobis system and sit in the same Snap-on EPC catalog. Look the number up against the VIN of the car you are fixing rather than assuming a part crosses brands.
What warranty do genuine Hyundai parts have?
In the US, Hyundai covers replacement parts it supplies for 12 months or 12,000 miles against defects in material or factory workmanship.
