The VIN is a useful starting point for a Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda or SEAT parts search. Select the vehicle record, then review the diagram and application notes. A VIN alone is not a guarantee that every displayed part fits.
Why start with the VIN?
Two cars with the same model name and year may have different engines, gearboxes, brakes or equipment. Selecting a catalog record through the VIN gives you a better starting point than choosing a model by name alone. Confirm the returned details against the vehicle.
The catalog can still show conditional alternatives. Read PR-code restrictions, production-date limits and market notes before selecting a part. This matters particularly when a diagram shows similar-looking brake or suspension components.
From the vehicle record to an OEM number
Open the assembly group and find the diagram callout. The callout is an illustration reference, not the number to order. Read the adjacent parts-list row, including its quantity, suffix and notes.
Follow any replacement reference to the current catalog entry. A supersession can have conditions or require companion parts. Keep those notes with the number when sending a request to your supplier.
What if the VIN is not recognized?
Check the characters against the vehicle and documents rather than guessing a correction. The free decoder can check basic structure and give limited identification clues.
