Why do people search for an ETK download?
Installed ETK is a licensed application with a local database, traditionally distributed through BMW dealer channels. Copies shared elsewhere often carry a version number and activation instructions. What goes stale in an installed copy?
BMW replacement chains can contain several numbers. A frozen database shows the number known when that version was released and may omit later replacements or newer model years. An installed product that still receives authorised updates is different from an abandoned offline copy.

What does online access provide?
